About the King George Stakes
First run in 1911, the King George Stakes is the highest rated 5 furlong sprint at the Glorious Goodwood meeting. The race was founded to commemorate the inauguration of King George V, and was given Group 3 status in 1971 when the modern race grading system was introduced. It was promoted to Group 2 status in 2010. Between 2017 and 2020 the King George Stakes was won four years in a row by champion sprinter, Battaash.
King George Stakes Betting
Some top quality sprinters compete in the King George Stakes, which can have the impact of dropping both field sizes and the price on the antepost favourite. In fact the majority of winning favourites are priced under Evens, and if the race produces a horse priced this low they are as good a banker as you’ll find. If you prefer to have the places covered with each-way bets, look for quality sprinters priced between 4/1 and 10/1, as this band of entries tends to produce winners when the antepost favourites fail.
