About the Thoroughbred Stakes
Originally run as the Surplice Stakes, the Thoroughbred Stakes has been run under its current title since 1998 when it was granted Listed status. In 2012 the Thoroughbred Stakes was promoted to Group 3 status. The Thoroughbred Stakes can occasionally attract some top quality milers, and was won by the impressive Baeed in 2021 as part of winning streak that included several Group 1 titles.
Thoroughbred Stakes Betting
The Thoroughbred Stakes field can be of variable quality year to year. If a top rated racehorse makes it into the field and receives favourite billing, as was the case with Baeed, it’s worth getting behind the favourite. If the field is more even then there’s some good value to be had looking at horses priced between 4/1 and 10/1, with this band of entries reliably producing winners while also offering the chance to profit off the places if you back them each-way.
