2024 Doncaster Cup Preview

Sweet William headlines the 2024 Doncaster Cup following his second place finish in the Goodwood Cup in August. Without his main rival and Ascot Gold Cup winner, Kyprios, competing in this race he looks like solid value for a straight back bet at 9/4.

Second in the betting is Trueshan, who was a winner in the Listed Coral Marathon at Sandown in July. While he’s a solid stayer he’s lost to Sweet William in a previous encounter and looks underpriced at 3/1.

Coltrane won the Group 3 Sagaro Stakes at Ascot in May, but has since fared poorly, finishing dead last in the Goodwood Cup. If he bounces back to his best he’ll be a genuine threat in this race, and at 7/1 is the only horse in the field offering genuine each-way value.
