About the Diomed Stakes
Named after the inaugural winner of the Epsom Derby, the Diomed Stakes was established in 1971. Today it serves as the Derby Festival’s 1 mile testing ground for 3-year-old and above milers racing in the third tier of pattern racing in the UK and Europe. The race has featured a couple of illustrious racehorses during its history, including Australia’s multiple Group One winner, Zaaki, who took the title in 2019.
Betting on the Diomed Stakes
Barring the odd upset, the betting markets do a solid job of picking out the genuine Diomed Stakes contenders. The majority of winners are priced under 8/1 and winning favourites are often priced over 2/1. When picking the winner you can therefore focus on horses priced 8/1 or lower, considering the relative merits of the contenders priced in this range.
