About the Woodcote Stakes
The Woodcote Stakes is a conditions race run during the Derby Festival at Epsom. The race is restricted to juvenile thoroughbreds and is run over a sprint distance of 6 furlongs and 3 yards. Despite its modest race rating the Woodcote Stakes is one of the oldest races run at the Derby Festival, with a history dating back to 1794. A number of winners have gone on to have strong 2-year-old seasons.
Betting on the Woodcote Stakes
The Woodcote Stakes is a tough race to call due to the fact that the competitors are juveniles and form data will be very thin due to the race’s early position in the racing calendar. Favourites are often conservatively priced and don’t have an impressive record in the race. The markets are nevertheless good at separating out the genuine contenders, and the majority of recent winners have been priced under 5/1. Best value is likely to lie with higher placed horses who will pay out well on each-way bets if they place.
