About the Mares Chase
The Mares Chase is the most recent addition to the Cheltenham Festival and will be run on the fourth day of the meeting. Open to mares aged 5 or older, the Mares Chase is run on the New Course at Cheltenham over a distance of 2 miles and 4.5 furlongs. Seventeen fences are jumped during the race.
The Mares Hurdle replaces the Centenary Novices Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, which has been moved to a separate race day outside of the festival schedule. The Mares Chase is the first mares-only steeplechase to be run at the Cheltenham Festival.
Betting on the Mares Chase
The Mares Chase is uncharted territory for punters, with no trends to draw on when looking for hints at what to look for in a potential winner. You'll therefore need to be on the lookout for mares that have performed well in open races earlier in the season over 2 mile distances. As always, look out for horses who offer value at prices over 4/1 so you can hedge your selection if it places with an each-way bet.
