A patent bet is a type of full-coverage bet. It provides complete coverage of all possible combinations of bets given three selections. A patent includes the following seven bets:
The patent is similar to a Trixie, which is also a multiple bet that involves three selections. However, a Trixie doesn’t include singles. A patent also differs from a Trixie in that it yields a return even if just one of the three selections wins.
On a betting slip, you can generally specify the stake you want to wager per bet or a total stake for the full patent. Note that if you choose to enter a stake per bet, the actual stake you’re betting will be seven times that amount (given that the patent consists of seven bets).
A patent is a risky type of bet but the returns for three winning selections are potentially high.
