Melling Chase

The Melling Chase is a National Hunt steeplechase over sixteen fences for horses aged five years or older. The race is run on the second day of the Aintree Grand National Festival.

2025 Melling Chase Preview

The Melling Chase has attracted just four runners in 2025, with Queen Mother Champion Chase runner-up, Jonbon, trading at 4/7. The inconsistent El Fabiolo could spring an upset, but is underpriced at 11/4, suggesting a punt on the favourite is the way to go.

About the Melling Chase

Named after the adjacent village of Melling, renowned for the Melling Road that intersects the racecourse, the Melling Chase was inaugurated in 1991. It has consistently maintained Grade 1 status since its inception. Competitors in the race frequently include horses that participated in either the Queen Mother Champion Chase or the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival the preceding month.
