The Sefton Novices Hurdle is a race for staying hurdlers aged four years or older featuring 13 hurdles. The race is run on the second day of the Aintree Grand National Festival.
2024 Sefton Novices Hurdle Preview
Reading Tommy Wrong finds himself trading as the favourite for the Sefton Novices Hurdle despite pulling up in the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham last month after starting as favourite.
His otherwise excellent record, which includes a Grade 1 win at Naas, suggests he’s a worthy favourite even if slightly underpriced.
Meanwhile, Jukebox Man is trading around the same price as the favourite following his second place finish in the Albert Bartlett Novices Chase, where he lost by just a head.
Shanagh Bob, winner at Grade 2 level at Cheltenham in December, is unbeaten in his two races over hurdles and will return a profit on each-way bets if he places.
Given the strength of the top three this is a good race to make use of Boylesports money back if 2nd to the SP favourite offer, which will insure your bet if the SP favourite beats your selection.

About the Sefton Novices Hurdle
Named after the adjacent village of Melling, renowned for the Melling Road that intersects the racecourse, the Melling Chase was inaugurated in 1991. It has consistently maintained Grade 1 status since its inception. Competitors in the race frequently include horses that participated in either the Queen Mother Champion Chase or the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival the preceding month.
