The Top Novices’ Hurdle is a National Hunt race over nine fences for horses aged four years or older. The race is run on the second day of the Aintree Grand National Festival.
2025 Top Novices Hurdle Preview
Romeo Coolio‘s 3rd place finish in the Supreme Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham last month has been enough to secure him favourite billing at Aintree, as he comes into the race at 3/2. With some strong results in Ireland towards the end of last year he’s a solid option, but underpriced.
Tripoli Flyer is flying high after three consecutive wins, which included a Grade 2 at Kempton in February. At 3/1 he’s a touch underpriced but offers better value than the favourite. For an each-way option look to Jet To Vegas, who has been in solid form in Scottish races with a Grade win last time out, and offers good value at 12/1.

About the Top Novices Hurdle
Typically, horses that previously competed in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle participate in the Top Novices’ Hurdle. From the 2016 edition onwards, the British Horseracing Authority elevated the Top Novices’ Hurdle to Grade 1 status.
