2024 Ascot Gold Cup Preview & Tips
A small field will line up for England’s biggest flat race for stayers’ with Kyprios emerging as a short odds favourite to take the title.
He’s won both his races this season, with both wins achieved over 1 mile 6 furlongs. Last season he was the runner up in both the Irish St Leger and the British Champions Long Distance Cup.
While he’s a deserved favourite he’s underpriced at close to Evens.
Gregory won the Group 2 Queen’s Vase at Ascot last season but has struggled in his three races since then, including a 3rd place finish in a field of 6 at York in May. Priced over 4/1, he’s a decent each-way betting option as he’s good enough to make the places.
However, it is Trawlerman who stands out as the value bet in this field. He placed against a top class field in the Dubai Gold Cup in March and was unbeaten last season, with his achievements including a win in the British Champions Long Distance Cup. Back him each-way while he’s priced over 4/1.
