About the King Edward VII Stakes
The King Edward VII Stakes is a 1 mile 4 furlong race for colts and geldings. This Group 2 race showcases the talents of the second tier of middle distance racehorses in the UK and Ireland, but a fairly large purse does sometimes attract interest from trainers eager to notch up ‘easy’ wins with top rated racehorses. It is the only race at Royal Ascot that allows entry to geldings.
Betting on the King Edward VII Stakes
Don’t be swayed by market hype in the King Edward VI Stakes, as higher rated horses entered into this race rarely fulfil their expectations of an easy win. Horses priced near Evens routinely lose the race. Aside from this you’ll find that second and third favourites offer good value and have a solid record of coming through – so look at horses with form at Group 3 level over this distance, and also stay away from the long shots as they also don’t tend to deliver in the King Edward VII Stakes.
