The Britannia Stakes is Royal Ascot’s signature 1 mile handicap race for colts and geldings. The race is run over the straight course at Ascot and entry is restricted to 3-year-old racehorses. Winners of the race are popular exports to the Asian racing market.

If you’re looking for an Ascot race to get behind a long shot, the Britannia Stakes is the way to go. The places usually feature at least one horse priced over 20/1, and it’s not unusual to find horses priced over 50/1 making the places. Antepost favourites are a hail Mary option, so your best bet here involves finding horses in the 20/1 to 50/1 range who’re proven milers at the weight they’ll be carrying and are well suited to race day conditions.
