About the Coronation Stakes

The Coronation Stakes is Royal Ascot’s feature race for 3-year-old filly milers. The group 1 race tends to draw top quality fields, attracting horses who competed in the English or Irish 1,000 Guineas, or the French equivalent, earlier in the season.

Betting on the Coronation Stakes

The presence of several champion milers in the field makes the Coronation Stakes a difficult race to bet on. The market will tend to get behind the winner of either the Irish or English 1,000 Guineas, and while these horses do occasionally deliver the goods, they’re not shoe-ins for the win. In fact recent form isn’t always the best indicator either, and you’re best off looking for a horse who had an obviously poor run last time out and will offer you good each-way value for a place.
