About the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes

The Duke of Edinburgh Stakes is a handicap run over 1 mile 4 furlongs. Entry is open to 3-year-old and above thoroughbreds. The Duke of Edinburgh Stakes was previously known as the Bessborough Stakes, and was renamed in 1999 in honour of Prince Phillip.

Betting on the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes

The Duke of Edinburgh Stakes has been dominated by 4 and 5-year olds, so don’t waste your time banking on older or younger horses. Other than this steer clear of horses hyped by the market, and look for solid middle distance runners who have performed well under weights equivalent to what they’ll be carrying on the day at Ascot.
