About the Mares Chase
The Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase is a recent addition to the Cheltenham Festival and will be run on the fourth day of the meeting. Open to mares aged 5 or older, the Mares Chase is run on the New Course at Cheltenham over a distance of 2 miles and 4.5 furlongs. Seventeen fences are jumped during the race.
The Mares Chase replaces the Centenary Novices Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, which has been moved to a separate race day outside of the festival schedule. The Mares Chase is the first mares-only steeplechase to be run at the Cheltenham Festival.
Look out for mares that have performed well in open races earlier in the season over 2 mile distances. As always, look out for horses who offer value at prices over 4/1 so you can hedge your selection if it places with an each-way bet.
