2025 Mares Novices’ Hurdle
Sixandahalf leads the betting coming into the 2025 Mares Novices Hurdle following a win in her maiden hurdles race at Fairyhouse in January. That single performance is not enough to justify her price of 11/4.
At 9/1 Aurora Vega is our value bet in this field, having won three of her four starts over hurdles, which included a win in a Grade 3 at Fairyhouse last time out.
In a wide open field Jubilee Alpha has strong credentials. She’s won two of her starts over hurdles and placed once, and at 11/1 offer good value on each-way bets if she places.

The Ryanair Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (registered as the Dawn Run Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle) is the most recent addition to the Cheltenham Festival, and the UK’s premier novices hurdle race for mares. The Grade 2 race is run over a distance of 2 miles 179 yards over the Cheltenham New Course and features eight hurdles. Entry to the race is open to fillies and mares aged 4-years-old and above.
The Ryanair Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle was created to attract the top novice mares in the United Kingdom, and presents a showcase of future mare talent that will be aimed at either the Mares Hurdle or the Champion Hurdle.
It’s still early days in the Ryanair Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle, and stable trends have yet to emerge in the race. However, as a Grade 2 race featuring novice racehorses, some things are to be expected. Quality is likely to win out over the long run, and the markets are likely to do a fairly good job of picking out genuine contenders, with the race’s end-of-day scheduling throwing off casual punters.
