2025 Ryanair Chase Preview
A strong favourite has emerged for the 2025 Ryanair Chase in the shape of Fact To File a third place finisher in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Leopardstown in February.
While he came up short on that occasion he was running over 3 miles, and was a winner at Punchestown in November when he won the Grade 1 John Durkan Memorial Chase over 2 miles 3.5 furlongs. He’s a deserved favourite, but not huge value at 11/8.
Il Est Francois is priced as Fact To File’s main rival in this race. A second place finisher in the King George VI Chase at Kempton in December, he won a Grade 1 chase over 2 miles 6 furlongs in France in September. Priced to 11/4 he’s a good win bet option.
For a value bet look no further than Djelo, winner of the Grade Denman Chase at Newbury in February. the Grade 2 Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon in December and the Grade 2 Haldon Handicap Chase at Exeter in November. At 12/1 he’s generously priced for an each-way bet.

About the Ryanair Chase
The Festival Trophy, more commonly referred to by its sponsors tag, is the premier 2 mile 5 furlong steeplechase run in the United Kingdom. The race is run on the third day of the Cheltenham Festival of the New Course and features 17 fences.
The Ryanair Chase is one of the more recent additions to the Cheltenham Festival. Despite this it quickly attracted top class fields. A number of winners have gone on to achieve other major race titles, including Gold Cup winner Imperial Commander, and classy 2 mile specialist, Un De Sceaux.
The Ryanair Chase tends to produce very strong favourites, and it’s not unusual for the antepost favourite to start the race trading on or under Evens. If you pick apart the form data on the card you’re likely to reach the same conclusion as the market, which leaves you with taking the short price or looking for value on horse that could place.
Overall it’s not a bad idea to try find value in the places, as a lot can happen to a favourite over 17 fences. But don’t be tempted to look at rank outsiders. Keep an eye out for horses with previous Grade 1 wins, as well as wins over the same course and/or distance. If the market does push the favourite below Evens, betting on the banker will pay dividends more often than not.
